INCLEMENT  WEATHER  POLICY

Students and parents driving to practice (whether it is AM or PM) should NOT attempt to drive if the weather conditions make driving hazardous, at any level.  Since we have AM practice before the SJ administration may make the call to delay or cancel school, we ask that you use great caution and use common sense when trying to determine if is OK to attend practice.

If you have any lingering doubts on this travel issue and question whether if it is safe to drive or not, better to err on the side of safety, and do not attempt to travel when conditions are difficult or may become difficult during practice time.

If school is delayed and you get the notice before AM practice=no practice.

If no notice before AM practice, but you question driving conditions, stay at home.

If school is canceled=no practice or meet.

Thank you for being safe!

Philosophy-

The Swimming and Diving Team incorporates St. John’s mission and values and is an extension of these beliefs. There will be performance standards and fitness expectations to be a member of the team.  TRY-OUTS are held the first week of practice 11/26-11/30.  A Swim/Dive team roster will be posted on the Athletic Director’s door for the week of 12/3.  Team members must adhere to Saint John’s and MIAA regulations to be a member of the team.

Commitment-

Team members must abide by Saint John’s and MIAA regulations to participate.  Students are responsible for finding their own ride to practice and home meets (car pools are arranged throughout the season). Team members must let the coaches know if they are to miss a practice session in advance.  If you are in school, you are expected at practice.  An unexcused absence may result in suspension from practice, meets, and team.  Practice may be held during the Christmas vacation period.

Sportsmanship-

Team members will display good sportsmanship and proper behavior at all practices, meets, and any team function.  This includes, but is not limited to, practice and meet facilities, teammates, competitors, coaches, officials and fans.  Teammates will also show support in practice and competition by assisting with management details such as taking splits, stroke counts, lap counts etc.

Practices-

Practices- Swim practices are held at he Greendale YMCA, MWF 6:15-7:30AM. Divers will schedule with Mr. Aybar for practice times at Holy Cross, check www.centralmassdiving.com for more information. Diving times may vary, but generally are in the 5:00-7:00 PM range, or directly after school.  You must be ready to swim/dive/train at the start of practice, please plan accordingly.  If you miss practice(s) due to unexcused absence you may miss the next competition, be suspended from the team, or removed from the team roster.

Meets-

Team members need to find their own transportation to home meets at Holy Cross, Hart Center Pool. You should arrive one hour before meet start time.  Transportation will be provided for away meets-be on time. Team members must let coaching staff know if they will be arranging their own transportation from an away meet (students are not allowed to drive other students). If a meet is missed for an unexcused absence, the student may miss the next meet, suspended from the team, or removed from the roster.

Apparel-

Athletes will be issued a team swimsuit (jammer or brief) and a cap.  Athletes need to provide their own practice suits and goggles.  You may bring your own practice gear (fins, kickboards, buoys, and paddles) to and from practice.  If you lose SJ supplied gear, you will be financially responsible for the replacement.
