Concordia Res Parve Crescunt
At this point in the school year, classes are settling down and the adjustment to the new year has finally come. Yet there is still something missing. A sense of belonging perhaps? Don't simply be a spectator for your years at Saint John's, engage in the school, and become an active member in a club or program at school.
The Model United Nations does exactly that, but it also affects more than just your school life. It provides a great opportunity to not only improve public speaking, but also the chance to meet new friends both at Saint John's and beyond. Each Tuesday from 2:30 to 3:30, club members meet in the Manor House (behind the Ryken Building) not only to become informed about global issues, but also to learn how to interact and resolve these problems.
On the 24th of October, Saint John's will host its own Model U.N. Conference in which all members of the club can actively participate. Many local schools will attend the conference, bringing with them new students (especially girls) to converse about worldwide problems. With success, you may be chosen by student-leaders and faculty moderators to represent Saint John's at National Conferences in the great cities of Providence and Chicago. Besides getting you out of school, these conferences provide an opportunity to meet other Model U.N. members from around the globe, and additionally the opportunity to see two awesome cities while engaging in international politics.
I hope you take the opportunity to spend one hour of your day and see what Model U.N. is all about.
