Science Club
~ Mr. W. James
Science club competes annually in the national Team America Model Rocketry Challenge, (www.rocketcontest.org/).
Each year the nature of the competition changes; this year's challenge is to design, build and fly a model rocket to an altitude of 825 feet with a total flight time of between 40 to 45 seconds. To make things interesting, a payload of one raw egg must be carried in flight and returned unbroken to ground.
St. John’s has competed in this competition for the past six years, placing second nationally in 2004 and qualifying in 2006. The club meets every week in the chemistry lab and although membership is open to all, some prior experience is an advantage.
