Baseball team captures state title

The Pioneers capped off an incredible season with a victory over St. John's Prep.

Saint John's High School Pioneers and and St. John's Prep Eagles are joined by a shared Xaverian Brotherhood, but on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton they were locked in a contest for the ultimate state title.

A strong and tight-knit team, of which several seniors have committed to playing in college, worked tirelessly and with heart to claim the 5-4 victory over SJP. The tenacious and energetic Pioneers captured the Division 1A state championship and raised the Super 8 trophy, continuing a tradition of success in teamwork.

This is Saint John's Baseball's first state title since 2002, when it beat Braintree for the Division 1 crown, and fourth overall. It was also their seventh state final appearance.

As Coach Charlie Eppinger '92 told telegram.com, “We only put up banners for state championships,” coach Charlie Eppinger said. “We haven’t put up a banner (for baseball) in a long time. It’s nice to get another banner up for our school.”

Congratulations to the players, coaching staff, and Athletic department on an amazing end to a great season. Learn more about the 2017 Saint John's Baseball team.
