Saint John's High School Breaking Ground on Two Artificial Turf Athletic Fields

At Saint John’s High School’s 16th Annual Gala held on April 7, Headmaster Alex Zequeira announced plans for two new artificial turf fields to replace their existing Pioneer and Freshman Fields on Main Street in Shrewsbury. The project is scheduled to break ground this Spring and scheduled to be completed for the fall athletic season in the 2018-2019 school year.

In his official announcement, Headmaster Zequeira stated, “Tonight I am thrilled to announce to the entire Saint John’s community, that in January our Board of Trustees approved the funding for the installation of two artificial turf fields. In addition, field lighting will be installed on Pioneer Field. This much-needed improvement will impact every student at Saint John’s High School, expanding our access to field space for our interscholastic, intramural, and physical education programs – and as we have seen these last few winters, it is much-needed as it provides us access to practice and game fields right at the start of the spring season.”

Saint John’s Athletic Director, Pat White, notes that “the acquisition of these two new fields will allow our student-athletes and coaches the ability to increase the quality of their practices. It will also allow our teams to have the best possible playing surface to compete on.”

Headmaster Zequeira adds, “This significant upgrade to the athletic fields is the first phase of a multi-year, multi-project Athletics & Wellness plan that will help fulfill the promise of the best, most rigorous and holistic education available to young men in our community and beyond.”

We look forward to enjoying these new facilities with both the Saint John's and Greater Worcester communities!
