Alex Zequeira to Depart as Headmaster of Saint John’s High School in June of 2024

In a meeting with faculty and staff and in a community-wide communication, Alex Zequeira has announced his departure as the Headmaster of Saint John’s High School, at the end of the next school year in June 2024. Zequeira’s strong leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on the school community.
 
Under Zequeira’s leadership, Saint John’s High School successfully implemented new academic programs and spaces, renovated and expanded campus facilities, successfully managed the COVID-19 global pandemic as the largest school in the state to be fully open, in-person, five days a week during the 2020-2021 school year, opened the Br. Robert Treanor, CFX Middle School Division, and published Purpose, People, and Preparation: A Strategic Plan for Saint John’s High School 2023-2028. His steadfast dedication to fostering a nurturing and inclusive educational environment has empowered countless young men to excel academically, grow personally and spiritually, and become compassionate leaders in their communities.
 
Zequeira came to Saint John’s in 2016 after serving five years as the president of Nativity School of Worcester, a school he helped found in 2003 when he served as Principal.
 
Reflecting on his time at Saint John’s High School, Alex Zequeira expressed his gratitude, saying, “It has been an honor and privilege to serve as the Headmaster of Saint John’s High School for the past seven years. The unparalleled commitment of our exceptional faculty, staff, and students, combined with the support of our families and alumni, has been instrumental in creating an environment where young men thrive. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward to the final thirteen months of my time at the school continuing to focus on the growth and strategic vision set forth by our community. I have no doubt that the future holds even greater achievements for this remarkable institution.”
 
Christopher Creed, Chair of the Board of Trustees and a Saint John’s High School alumnus from the class of 1996 praised Zequeira’s transformative leadership. Creed stated, “We are fortunate and grateful to have had and continue to have a leader like Alex with tremendous expertise and an even-larger mission-forward outlook. Alex’s vision and dedication have propelled Saint John’s High School to new heights. His passion for educational excellence, coupled with his steadfast and deep commitment to the development of well-rounded young men, has had a profound impact on our students. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Alex for his outstanding leadership and wish him and his family continued success.”
 
Patrick Slattery, Executive Director for Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools based in Baltimore, Maryland, reflected on Alex’s role as Headmaster at Saint John’s, stating, “Alex has been a tremendous mission-driven leader, always seeking to ensure our Xaverian charism and history is rooted in decision making and animated in the life of the school. He’s been a consummate professional in our Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School network. The Saint John’s High School Board of Trustees will commence a nationwide search for a new Head of School to continue the school’s tradition of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and service to others.
