Diversity Prayer Service asks "who is my neighbor?"

Students and faculty explored the meaning of compasion.

The Diversity Prayer Service recognized and honored the differences in the Saint John's High School community and encouraged all present to love our neighbors near and far - in any way. From local volunteering to global service work to extending a comforting shoulder to a friend, "loving one's neighbor" truly is the cornerstone of living a compassionate life.

As a send-off for SJ Global Encounter groups, a commissioning formally recognizes the students and adult members of the community who will go out and serve in communities near and far. Individuals traveling in February to Haiti, Ecuador, and Camden, and to West Virginia, Worcester, Providence, and Manchester in April are listed below.

In his reflection on religious diversity, Hamza Khalid '18 contemplated what being a good neighbor means to him and reminded his classmates and teachers that everyone is part of an intricate global community, with the responsibility to extend love and support to all.

Dean of Students Mr. Carlton Galligan offered a reflection on inclusivity and love transcending borders. Denzel Darteh '18 offered the Gospel Reading from Luke, compelling all to “love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

Junior and senior XBSS students had the entire gym captivated in a dynamic reading of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech in honor of Black History Month.

Music filled the Coaches Pavilion, starting with the Saint John’s Choir singing "Lean on Me (We Shall Overcome)" and continuing with a rousing rendition of "One" by U2 as performed by Chris DeWolfe '17, Hunter Gorgas '18Spencer Holmes '17Ben Scharf '18, and James Sullivan '17
