Lent at Saint John's

A season of reflection, prayer, and sacrifice.

The season of Lent began with the Ash Wednesday Mass, celebrated by Rev. Jose Rodriguez. Ashes were distributed and Father Jose spoke of the importance of sacrifice, born out of gratitude for the blessings we have received. He offered a reminder of man's mortality, as signified by the ashes, and challenged all students, faculty, and administrators to reflect on how best to use that limited time.

Coming off of a week during which many community members immersed themselves in service, the school was reminded of a core element of Saint John's, and a good example of how to spend this time: service. Leadership through service to others can be found in students' experiences, both on Global Encounter trips and at home, in the ordinary moments of their days.

Six new members of the XBSS team were recognized during the Mass. Juniors Banafo Abbeyquaye, Andrew DelBrocco, Liam Doran, Isaiah Keegan, Joshua Loiselle, and Robert Wickstrom will be taking part in the annual retreat for Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools next week. There, they will learn about the Xaverian founders, the values that run through XBSS schools today, and get to know students from those 13 schools around the country today.

The Lenten Season

In recognition of the season of the season of Lent, Saint John's High School is sharing weekly reflections with the school community. Dean of Students and former Director of Campus Ministry Carlton Galligan composed prayers and reflections, which can be found on the Campus Ministry page.
