With song, dance, and - of course - food, the school recognized Foreign Language Week.

March 6-12, 2017 is designated as National Foreign Language Week, and this year's theme as recognized by the Saint John's World Language Department is Find the Missing Piece. Learn a Language

All week, students have the chance to add the study and appreciation of other languages into their days.  On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday the daily prayer was offered in Spanish, French, and Chinese. Lunch items in the cafeteria were also be posted in French, Spanish and Chinese.

Wall of Peace

Students were asked to write quotes, phrases, and words related to the theme of peace which were posted at the end of the main corridor of Founders Hall.

School-wide International Festival

On Thursday, March 9th the World Language Department hosted an afternoon of music, dance, skits, a raffle, and challenges on the stage of the theater. The program was followed by ethnic food sampling in the corridor of the first floor of Founders Hall.

Four brave teams battled in a poutine-eating contest, and in a surprise twist for Monseuir Lizotte and the audience, the last-minute entrants won the challenge.

The World Languages Department at Saint John's strives to "educate young men for life in the 21st-century," and find it "essential that they be infused with an awareness of the cultural, linguistic, and sociological diversity that will provide them the sensitivity to coexist in a multi-ethnic society." The study of language, more than memorization of words, is about fostering the ability to communicate, and achieving a fundamental appreciation for the differences that make up the fabric of the world.
