33rd Annual Alumni Golf Classic

Pioneers gathered for some sunny rounds of golf at this favorite tradition.

June 12, 2017 | Wachusett Country Club

Per tradition, as established by the legendary Joe Lane '56, alumni of all ages tee off at Wachusett Country Club on the second Monday of June. Many groups of alumni have been golfing together at this tournament for over three decades. A group of SJ golfers who graduated in May represented the youngest class of alumni, and took home the Palmer Division trophy.

With temperatures in the mid-90s on a bright summer day, over 200 alumni golfed throughout the day. Special thanks to tee sponsors and Donnie Marrone ’68 and his family from Wachusett Country Club for their continuous support of the tournament.

At the Golf Classic, an honorary alumnus is recognized for his ties and contributions to the Saint John's community of students and alumni. This year, recent retiree and Pioneer parent Tom Danna 'H P'99,'02 was named an honorary alum. He taught in the science department at Saint John's from 1981 to 2017 and has left a legacy of hard work, humility, friendliness, and a pure love of learning for generations of students.
