On August 26, Saint John's Baseball was recognized as State Champions by the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

SHREWSBURY — Saint John’s High School’s varsity baseball team will be recognized at Fenway Park by the Boston Red Sox as the 2017 D1A Super 8 State Champions on Saturday, August 26. This marks the fourth state championship for the Pioneers baseball team and the first under the Super 8 format adopted for baseball in 2014. The team won a school record of 23 games (23-3 overall) against what was arguably the state’s most difficult schedule. The Red Sox will take on the Baltimore Orioles at 4:05 pm this Saturday.

Additionally, the 2017 Saint John’s team was recognized by the Central Massachusetts’ Umpire Association with this year’s Sportsmanship Award.

The team will be joined on the field by members of Saint John’s 1952 State Championship team who won the Massachusetts state championship 65 years to the day that the 2017 team won theirs. Representing the 1952 team will be James Courville ’52, Donald Akerson ’54, and William Mackie ’53.

Reflecting on this honor, Headmaster Alex Zequeira P’19 remarks: “We are grateful for the Red Sox organization for recognizing a team that not only achieved the ultimate prize this season in baseball our state, but was also recognized by the umpires association for their sportsmanship and fair play. They are shining example of what we expect from all of our student athletes at Saint John's High school - leaders and role models on and off the field.”
