Freshman Class Welcome Grandparents to Campus

Liz Costa
Grandparent’s Day is one of the school’s most special, treasured tradition, as we welcome hundreds of grandparents of the freshman class to campus for a brunch and campus tours – led by their very own grandsons.

After enjoying brunch with fellow grandparents, two thoughtful speakers had an opportunity to address the group. Current senior Marc J. Durocher ‘18 shared a personal story of the impact his grandparents have had on his life and his journey as a student at Saint John’s. He thoughtfully noted that their continued encouragement and unconditional love have undoubtedly shaped the man he is today.

Headmaster Alex Zequeira P’19 also reflected on the special role of his grandparents. He shared his admiration and thankfulness for his grandparents’ sacrifices in moving their children from Cuba to Miami in search for a better life.

As the speeches concluded, the freshmen class joined the celebration – lining the perimeter of the room to greet their grandparent’s and begin their personal tours of the campus.

The day was filled with an overwhelming amount of pride – both a grandparent’s pride in their grandsons and a grandson’s pride in his family and tradition. We look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come.
