What Does Thanksgiving Mean to You?

One of the most common questions we hear this time of year is the ever-popular “What are you thankful for?” At Saint John’s, we certainly have a lot to be thankful for – especially this year. Our students, faculty and staff have seen great success on so many levels in the classroom, on the playing fields, and everywhere in between.

So, at this year’s Thanksgiving Interfaith Prayer Service, rather than focusing on the things we are thankful for, the focus shifted to the reflection of “What Does Thanksgiving Mean to You?” This seemingly simple question was given depth with the responses from current students Tom Sarrouf ’18, Gurkeerat Sawhner ’21, Haris Waqar, Simon Eber ’21, and faculty member Dr. Edward Tonelli ’82, who provided remarkable reflections on what Thanksgiving means to them in relation to their respective religions and traditions.

The service continued with a video produced by Saint John’s senior Ben Scharf, who created a video montage of students, faculty and staff answering the questions: “What are you thankful for”, “who are you thankful for”, and “why are you thankful”. A truly meaningful (and at times very funny!) way to depart for Thanksgiving break.

To conclude the presentations, Athletic Director Pat White presented the Saint John’s Cross Country Team with their Division Championship trophy – a great way to end a wonderful service.

On behalf of all of us at Saint John’s, we wish you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving!
