Saint Johns’ Chuck Abdella ’92 Publishes Third Book

On December 29, 2017, Saint John’s alumnus and current faculty member Chuck Abdella ’92, published his newest book, “Whispers of Spring”, the third in a four-book series.

Chuck recalls that his first writing break may have been when he was published in the Saint John’s annual literary publication, Icon as a junior in 1991 and has written sporadically since graduating.

For the last twenty-one years, Chuck’s focus has been on teaching History at Saint John’s, and advising the school’s Model United Nations team. It wasn’t until June of 2013, after experiencing a long bout of writer's block and undergoing vocal cord surgery that left him without a voice for three weeks, that he began writing in the fantasy genre for the first time. The resulting manuscript eventually became "The Outcasts: The Lies of Autumn" which was published in 2015. Its sequel, "The Darkest Forests" was published just one year later.

His newest book, entitled "Whispers of Spring", is the third book in the four-book series. After reading this third book, a reader reflected, "To me, it is the best of the three... I thought the writing was really strong and crisp, with excellent pacing." The back of the book blurb for "Whispers of Spring" notes, "Winter’s cold hand seemingly grasps the Realm, but the promise of spring whispers a message of hope to those who listen. As the adventure continues, some secrets will be revealed, and others will remain untold for 'the truth is a sharp and prickly thing.' In the third book of the Outcasts series, Chuck Abdella's imaginary fantasy world has never seemed more familiar because we recognize his heroes' monsters as our own."

Chuck is scheduled for a book reading, Q&A session, and book signing at the Boylston Public Library on Saturday, February 17 from 11 AM to noon. After which, he will begin work on the fourth and final book to conclude the series.

The book is available for purchase here, on Amazon.
