A Pioneer's Legacy

Through the years, Saint John’s has been truly blessed by alumni, parents, and friends who have remembered our school in their Wills. Their legacies live on through our current Pioneers and through the Xaverian tradition and mission of Saint John’s.

With a Will you can control how your assets will be distributed - provide both for your family and for Saint John’s - and you can invest in the future Pioneer leaders within their professions and communities. Many who live on a fixed income for years helping generously, but modestly, when they could, make a “gift of a lifetime” and remember Saint John’s in their Will.

The Ryken Society

A Will sets forth your legacy and is the most important document that you will ever write. Through the years, Saint John’s has been truly blessed by alumni, parents, and friends who have remembered our school in their Wills. Their legacies live on through our current Pioneers and through the Xaverian tradition and mission of Saint John’s.

With a Will you can control how your assets will be distributed. With a Will you can provide both for your family and for Saint John’s – ensuring that the next generation of Pioneers will benefit from a first-rate Xaverian education.

Because we are a recognized charity by the IRS, naming Saint John’s in your Will or Trust may save estate taxes, making it possible for your family to receive more.

Ways to leave your legacy

List of 5 items.

  • Simple Estate Language

The following are two kinds of Will and Trust sample language:
    1. Outright gift of a specific sum of money: “I give to Saint John’s High School, the sum of $_________.”
    2. Outright gift of a share of residuary estate (i.e. after payment of all debts, expenses and other legacies): “I give, devise and bequeath Saint John’s High School all (or ______%) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate.
  • Charitable Gift Annuity

A Saint John’s Charitable Gift Annuity provides you with a guaranteed income for the rest of your life, often at a much higher rate of return than is available through traditional investment and can save you taxes. Afterwards any remaining funds become part of your Pioneer Legacy.
  • Financial Accounts

Your legacy can also continue by naming Saint John’s as the beneficiary of a bank account, brokerage account, mutual fund account, or certificate of deposit. During your lifetime you use these accounts as desired and afterwards the remaining funds will go to Saint John’s. Your estate will receive a charitable deduction for your gift.
  • Life Insurance

Naming Saint John’s as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy that is no longer needed for your family will provide financial support for our school and students for years after you are no longer able to give.
  • Retirement Plans

Naming Saint John’s as a beneficiary to your IRA (Individual Retirement Account), 401 (k) Plan, 403 (b) Plan, Qualified Pension Plan or Qualified Profit Sharing Plan allows you to spend your retirement funds as you choose during your lifetime. Afterwards, the remaining funds go to Saint John’s efforts to providing an affordable, first-rate Xaverian education to families of all economic means. If family members other than a spouse inherit these plans, they may have to pay both federal estate and income taxes. Because Saint John’s is a tax-exempt organization, no taxes will be due and the assets you worked hard to accumulate with go further.
