16th Annual Service Day
The SJ community lives out the mission to lead is to serve.
As part of the service tradition that exists at Saint John's High School, every spring members of the school community visit nonprofits and organizations across Central Masachusetts to learn about their work and spend a day in service and community.
240 Pioneers, including the Lacrosse team, Model United Nations, future Pioneers, current families, and the Parents Association coordinated service and went out to two dozen local community service sites.
Groups worked with organizations including:
AIDS Project Worcester
Auburn Youth & Family Services
Catholic Charities of Worcester
Habitat for Humanity
Hillside Restoration Project
Holy Name House of Studies
Interfaith Hospitality
Matthew25
Mustard Seed
Sacred Heart Church
Shrewsbury Housing Authority
St. Vincent de Paul
Venerini Academy
YouInc.
YWCA
Zion Lutheran Church
Thank you to everyone whose hard work, dedication, and sacrifice have kept this tradition of service strong for over a decade and a half!
According to campus minister Pete Richer '11, “Service Day is the perfect opportunity for the students to take what they learn in the class room and make it real. If Saint John’s stands for anything, it’s this: to bring Christ to life, and there is no better way to do that than going out into the Greater Worcester community to serve.”
Campus Ministry offers service opportunities for all students throughout the school year, from weekly tutoring to annual service trips within the Saint John's community and around the world.
