SJ Model UN Hosts 39th Annual SJMUN Conference

SJMUN 39 - A Success!
Author: Milton Lito '28

On October 24th, 2026, close to 500 participants from three states and nearly 40 schools attended the 39th Annual Saint John’s Model United Nations Conference here at Saint John’s. In Founders Hall, delegates collaborated and debated to solve the most pressing issues of our time and history. Secretaries General Alex Krolewski ’27 and Aarav Jain ’27 spoke on how community and resilience shape the joy that is found in Model UN, with their speeches being noted by Mr. Don Franke, the President of the New England Model United Nations Moderators Association (NEMUNMA), as two of the best speeches he has ever heard at a Model UN conference. In following the spirit of MUN, Alex and Aarav challenged delegates to go beyond talking about making an impact on the world, but to act by raising donations for the UMass Memorial Pediatric ICU. Over the course of the day, delegates raised over $1,200 dollars for this great cause! A special thank you to Dr. Amanda Johnson P’27, who came to speak with delegates about her work in the Pediatric ICU and what a career looks like in the medical industry.

Saint John’s Model UN would like to thank the many alumni, volunteers, faculty, and attendees for their constant support of Saint John’s Model UN, which allows our annual conference to run successfully every year. SJ Alumni Mr. Dean Stamoulis ’89 and Mr. Todd Stamoulis ’92 of Garden Fresh catered the delicious breakfast and lunch, powering delegates through the rest of committee to solve today’s problems! We would also like to thank recent graduates Ronan Davis ’26 and Manav Gutlapalli ’26 for coming to help on October 23rd to help with last-minute preparations and during the conference to help chairs of committees and lunch staff. A special thank you to SJMUN club moderators Mr. Abdella ’92, Mr. Lizotte ’89, and Dr. McClintock P’25 for their continued support in every endeavor of Saint John’s Model UN. Lastly, thank you to Saint John’s High School for organizing Model United Nations conferences for almost 40 years now, allowing students to tackle the most pressing topics of our times and navigate difficult diplomatic challenges every year. We were the first school in the area to offer a high school conference, and it’s incredible that we’ve just completed number 39.

Saint John’s Model United Nations looks forward to Brown University’s Simulation of The United Nations of the University of Chicago’s Model United Nations Conference in the coming months, where delegates will meet with students from the entire world to settle pressing issues and improve their personal speaking and diplomacy in close debate.
