Saint John's Receives Inspirational Commitment from Dennis Crowley '79

A major new commitment from Saint John’s High School trustee Dennis Crowley ’79 will support the school’s work on the exciting priorities outlined in the recently published “People, Purpose & Preparation” strategic plan.

“I am grateful to Dennis for this transformational commitment to his alma mater,” said Headmaster Alex Zequeira P’19. “His passion and love for Saint John’s come through each time I see him. His generosity will support our mission and vision in the work we do here at Saint John’s every day, and also as we look to continuously adapt to best meet the needs of our students and community. ”

The $1,000,000 commitment is dedicated to the “Curriculum of Care in Support of Community Wellness” priority of the Saint John’s strategic plan. Aligned with its vision of educating the whole person, this priority calls the school to increase the emphasis on the health and wellness of all members of the community through new and reimagined programs, systems and spaces on campus.

“I want to thank Dennis for his amazing contributions - both this wonderful commitment and his time,” said Chris Creed ‘96, Chair of the Saint John’s Board of Trustees. “Our strategic plan outlines an important vision for Saint John’s. It is the  generosity of our entire community that will energize the work to bring that plan to life.”

Crowley has enjoyed a long, successful business career since graduating from Saint John’s in 1979. He now serves as CEO and Chairman of two businesses: PNC Capital Group and Doctor’s Choice Pharmacy. In addition to his service to his alma mater, Crowley supports several community organizations and is on the Board of Directors for Make-a-Wish Southern Florida.

Saint John’s High School’s “People, Purpose and Preparation” strategic plan was compiled across ten months in 2022. Nearly 1,200 students, families, trustees, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and members of the wider community participated in focus groups, surveys and a strategic retreat in an effort to collect valuable insight from all constituents.

Rooted in a common vision and dedicated to a strong sense of purpose and mission, that input guided the school toward four strategic priorities: Excellence in teaching and Learning; Curriculum of Care in Support of Community Wellness; Deeper Sense of Belonging among All Community Members; and Celebration and Promotion of the Many Opportunities of the Saint John’s Experience.” The plan was published and shared publicly in January 2023.

“As a Xaverian Brothers sponsored school, we are a community that does not stand still,” Zequeira said. “This plan will continue to position Saint John’s as a premier all-boys Catholic school with a storied past but an equally vibrant future serving boys and young men in our community.”
