Saint John's Names Head Varsity Track Coach, Gary Senecal

Filling Role of Recent Coaching Retiree, Tim Hilliard after 12 Successful Seasons, Saint John’s High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Senecal as its Head Varsity Track Coach effective immediately. Gary will coach indoor and outdoor track in the winter and spring respectively. He currently serves as the Offensive Line Coach for the Saint John’s Varsity Football team.

Senecal comes to Saint John’s High School with more than 16 years' experience coaching at the high school and collegiate level - most recently at Assumption University. He has also coached at The University of West Georgia, and the former St. Peter-Marian, now St. Paul’s Diocesan Jr. Sr. High School. Senecal takes over from Dr. Tim Hilliard who successfully coached the Pioneer teams for 12 years.

The Saint John’s High School track team competes at The Track at New Balance and the Reggie Lewis Center during the indoor season. Last season the indoor team’s dual meet record was 3-3 and the outdoor team was 3-2. Saint John’s High School track student-athletes compete locally, regionally and nationally.

Gary, a Worcester resident, currently works as an Assistant Professor of Human Services at Assumption University. He received his Bachelor’s in Liberal Studies from Saint Anselm College where he was named Male Student Athlete of the Year. He went on to receive his Master’s in Philosophy at the Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven in Belgium and PhD in Psychology from the University of West Georgia where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. In 2022, Gary was deployed to East Africa with the United States Military where he held the position of an Executive Officer/Team Leader for the 947th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Team.

“I am incredibly honored to be named the Head Track Coach at Saint John’s High School,” says Gary Senecal. “As a current Assistant Coach to the football team, I am even more excited to take on this role having already been made aware of how incredible Saint John’s High School and its athletic program is.” Gary adds.

“Gary brings a wealth of coaching and teaching experience to the track and football programs and has achieved success at every level he has coached,” says Headmaster Alex Zequeira. “He is a well-respected offensive coach here at Saint John’s High School and we are excited to have him expand his role as a Head Varsity Track Coach.”

“Gary is a dedicated coach and is passionate about his role and athletes,” says Michael Mead, Saint John’s Athletic Director. “I’m excited for Gary and his team and look forward to watching the program excel.” Mead concludes.
