SJ Wins!

Michael Sarkis
SJ wins the first round of the playoffs on a strong 35-30 win!
The game started out rough for the Pioneers. Leominster began with an onside kick, which Leominster recovered. After covering the short field Leominster scored to make the game 0-6. Saint John's did not let the touchdown phase them though. On the kickoff following the Leominster TD, Sam Goodhue ran 85 yards to the endzone to put SJ up 7-6. Saint John's was right back in the game. The defense held Leominster to field goal on the next drive and the offense answered with a Touchdown from Tim Cassidy(13-9). Leominster was not going to give up though and responded with a touchdown of their own(13-17). However, Saint John's would finish out the half with a lead following Cassidy's 2nd rushing TD. The half would end 19-17.

The second half would start just like the first half, except this time SJ was the team doing an onside kick, which they recovered. The offense wasted no time and on the first play of the second half Cam Lucey caught a bomb from Tim Cassidy for 47 Yd TD(26-17). The game remained close with Leominster answering Saint John's scores (26-24). The turning point did not come until Saint John's got a saftey and Leominster due to an intentional grounding penalty in the endzone(28-24). SJ was able to score off of that possesion and extend thier lead to 11 (35-24). At this point there were only 9 minutes left on the clock in the forth quarter. Leominster got the ball and began to slowly march down the field to score a touchdown(35-30). The drive took 18 plays and over 6 and a half minutes. All the Pioneers had to do was kill the clock with a couple first downs, which they did flawlessly with rushing from MacBrien Nkongchu. Saint John's was able to over come the Blue Devils who had beat them in the previous week. They will move onto face Nashoba.
