Holy Week Prayer Service brings reflection

Several students and Headmaster Welch shared their stories and struggles with the school.

One of the many services offered to students and faculty throughout the year is the Holy Week Prayer Service.

During this year’s poignant and moving Holy Week Prayer Service, students Dan North, Kenny Gray, and Jonathan Butts shared their stories of the crosses they bear and how they find light in the darkness with the support and example of the people in their lives.

Zachary Crowley ’16 led the school in prayer before senior Dan North discussed his unique struggles in “Taking Up the Cross.” Chris DeWolfe ’17 and Jacob LaChapelle ’16 performed a moving acoustic/cello duet to follow, after which senior Kenny Gray related Jesus’ falling under the cross, before rising, to his own journey.

English teacher Diane Mulligan played by Brandi Carlile’s “That Wasn’t Me” before senior Jonathan Butts reflected on the unexpected challenges and heartbreak in life that have shaped him, eliciting a standing ovation for sharing his story. Adam French ’16 also lent his musical talents to the stirring service.

Headmaster Michael Welch captivated the entire school community when he took the mic to open up about the burdens he has carries and challenges he has overcome in his life. His reflection culminated in the washing of the feet of student volunteers, who then proceeded to wash the feet of their classmates, echoing the example of humble service demonstrated by Christ.
