Student programmers collaborate & compete

A team of four students participated in a regional programming contest.

On Monday, March 6, 2017 Mr. Gregory Blondin, Computer Science Chair, and a team of four Saint John’s programming students traveled to Providence, Rhode Island to compete in the Providence College 31st Annual High School Programming Contest.

Michael Alano '17, Jordan Blackadar '17, Liam Brown '17 and Benjamin Clermont '17 were among 64 students from 16 high schools  across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York who competed in four-person teams during the competition.

The team demonstrated tremendous mathematical and computer programming skill writing creative programs that correctly solved challenging, hypothetical math problems.

The team worked extremely well together, both in preparation and competition. From building collaborative and communication skills to the hands-on fulfillment of 6 out 8 problems in the time allotted, they were able to achieve a 5th place finish.
