Advancement Gift Officer

Saint John’s is a private college-preparatory school for boys founded in 1898 in Worcester, MA, and moved to its present location in Shrewsbury, MA, in 1961. The school, sponsored by the congregation of Saint Francis Xavier (Xaverian Brothers), enrolls approximately 950 day students in grades seven through twelve from nearly 70 communities in Massachusetts.

Position Description:
Saint John’s High School seeks a motivated, relationship-driven advancement professional to help grow philanthropic support and deepen engagement among our alumni, parents, and friends. The Gift Officer position is a full-time, on-site role in Shrewsbury, MA reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer. Responsibilities include identifying potential donors, managing donor portfolios, developing fundraising strategies, supporting special events, and collaborating with other teams to meet annual giving goals.  

Core Responsibilities:
  • Drive and support comprehensive fundraising programs designed to grow annual giving, endowment support, and overall donor participation.
  • Develop and execute solicitation strategies for the Annual Fund, Endowment, reunion giving, and targeted constituent campaigns.
  • Manage a portfolio of leadership prospects throughout the moves management cycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for annual, endowment, and capital priorities.
  • Partner with the Marketing & Communications team to create compelling donor communications, appeals, and engagement strategies.
  • Support donor and community engagement events, including receptions, reunion activities, and regional gatherings. Evening and weekend availability is required.
  • Travel may be needed for donor visits and events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Advancement team’s goals.
Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; experience in fundraising, sales, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in building relationships, engaging prospects, and securing support.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey the mission of Saint John’s with clarity and enthusiasm.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative team player who values shared success and thrives in a mission-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and familiarity with Blackbaud or similar CRM platforms.
  • Experience in or knowledge of Catholic or independent secondary schools is a plus.
