Faculty: Physics (Grades 9-12)

Saint John’s is a private college-preparatory school for boys founded in 1898 in Worcester, MA, and moved to its present location in Shrewsbury, MA, in 1961. The school, sponsored by the congregation of Saint Francis Xavier (Xaverian Brothers), enrolls approximately 950 day students in grades seven through twelve from nearly 70 communities in Massachusetts.

Position Description

Saint John’s High School is seeking a dynamic and engaging Physics teacher to join our faculty. We value diversity and seek candidates who are knowledgeable in their field, compassionate in their work with students, and committed to collaboration with colleagues, families, and the broader school community.

The ideal candidate is passionate about both the study and teaching of science and is committed to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry. This educator will guide young men as they develop their understanding of physics through an engaging, student-centered, inquiry-based classroom environment.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and personal growth while inspiring students through optimism, integrity, flexibility, selflessness, and teamwork. They will embrace opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and recognize the importance of addressing moral and ethical questions that arise both inside and outside the classroom.

In addition to strong content knowledge and instructional skills, the ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to contribute to the life of the school. Faculty members at Saint John’s are encouraged to share their passions beyond the classroom through activities such as coaching, advising student organizations, leading retreats, or supervising extracurricular programs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in Physics or a related field.
  • Experience teaching at the high school level, or relevant professional experience.
  • Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to articulate effectively the values and mission of Saint John’s High School and the Xaverian Brothers.
  • Commitment to Catholic education.
  • Knowledge of contemporary educational issues, topics, and trends, especially those impacting boys and young men.
  • Dedication to partnering collaboratively with a team of talented faculty.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skill in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.).
  • Experience with incorporating educational technology into the classroom.
  • Commitment to including and encouraging all students from all backgrounds.
