SJMUN Conference - 38 Years Strong
By Trevor Higgins ‘27, Director of Communications for SJMUN

On October 18, 2025, over 400 delegates from 33 schools throughout New England participated in the 38th annual Saint John’s Model United Nations Conference held in Founder’s Hall. During these sessions, delegates engaged in discourse and collaborated with one another to resolve pressing world issues. Co-Secretaries General Nishan Shaik ’26 and Kirpal Rayat ’26 set a tone of inclusion, dialogue, a willingness to “put yourself out there,” and a recognition that sometimes it’s not about the destination or even the journey, but rather the company you keep on that journey.

There were many SJ alumni who deserve recognition for making the XXXVIII Model United Nations Conference such a success. SJ alumni, Mr. Dean Stamoulis ’89 and Mr. Todd Stamoulis ’92, provided a delicious catered breakfast and lunch from Garden Fresh. Other alumni on campus to help with the conference were B.C. High MUN moderator Dr. Nick Argento ’79 and Archbishop Williams MUN moderator, Mr. Brendan Mahoney ’14. There was even an appearance from recent MUN graduate, Gabe Gracies ’25. We thank each of these gentlemen for their support of SJ Model United Nations.

Saint John’s Model United Nations would also like to thank parents, faculty, volunteers, and all the participants who helped make this year’s conference so successful. We were honored to have the President of the New England Model United Nations Moderators Association, Mr. Don Franke, join us again this year. A special thank you to our club moderators, Mr. Abdella ’92, Mr. Lizotte ’89, and Dr. McClintock P’25, for their unwavering support, dedication, and encouragement.

Saint John’s High School has been organizing Model United Nations conferences for almost four decades. These conferences allow students the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue on international issues that face our world today. The skills of public speaking, negotiation, and debate that are developed through participation in Model United Nations will serve its members well as they embark on their future careers.

Saint John’s Model United Nations is looking forward to expanding its reach and gaining additional experience in debate and diplomacy when the delegates head to Brown University in November and then the University of Chicago in February.
