Ocean State Invite - Race Summary

Pioneers Finish 9th in the Ocean State Invitational Cross Country Meet
 
On an overcast and drizzly morning the SJ Pioneers traveled to Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick RI to compete in the annual OSI cross country meet. On a relatively flat and fast 5k course the harriers ran a competitive race placing 9th out of 36 teams.
 
Leading the pack for the thinclads was senior co-captain Tommy Robinson finishing 16th overall in a time of 16:53. Running personal bests over the 5k distance and competing strong as a group  were a ‘Pack of Pioneers’ with senior Sev Smith finishing 48th in 17:39, followed closely by sophomore Luke Depeter in 51st in 17:40 and his fellow classmate Arnav Chatterjee in 53rd place in a time of 17:44. Rounding out the scoring for St. John’s was senior co-captain Tommy Breeze also finishing in a personal best time of 18:58 for 136th place.
 
In the JV contest,  the top finisher for the Pioneers was senior Chase Brush in 20:15 for a 104th place finish.
 
In the Freshman 4k race, Jackson Mitchell finished 18th out of 227 runners in a time of 14:52.
He was followed by classmate Blake Rice in 16:39, Sean Hoban in 17:51 and Tanmay Jain in 21:36.
 
The harriers next meet is on Tuesday, September 26 at 4:00 pm where they will travel to Boston’s iconic Franklin Park cross country course to take on Catholic Memorial in a Catholic Conference battle.
