Pioneers come up short against the Prep
On a cool, damp day on the campus of St. John’s Prep, the Pioneers competed hard but came up a tad short against a strong Eagle team by a score of 28-29 to complete their 2023 Catholic Conference dual meet season with a record of 2-3.
Over a tight and rolling 5k course, senior Tommy Robinson ran a gutsy race and outkicked his nearest competitor over the last 400m to secure his victory in a very respectable time of 17:05.
Running competitively throughout the race senior Sev Smith and sophomore Luke Depeter battled for a hard fought 3rd & 4th place finish in 17:49 and 17:52 respectively.
Rounding out the scoring for the Pioneers was sophomore Arnav Chatterjee in 9th place in a time of 19:04 and senior Teddy Conboy in 13th place in a time of 19:22.
In the JV contest, senior Chase Brush finished 2nd in a time of 20:09 with SJP winning by a score of 25-30.
In the Freshmen race, the Eagles dominated 16-47 with Jackson Mitchell finishing 4th in 9:47 over the 3k distance.
The Pioneers next race will be the Catholic Conference Championship at Franklin Park on Tuesday, October 24 at 2:40 PM.
